Presenting the book trailer for my latest nonfiction graphic novel, The Comic Book Story of Video Games.

I have done a few video projects like this before…

But no subject I’ve ever written previously about has so readily lent itself to explication at thirty frames per second.

It was a blast to produce this, including the fun send-ups of classic gaming TV commercials from the 1990s and 2000s.

To evoke the PlayStation 3 “baby” commercial, it was a bit of a challenge to find a bleak, stripped-down, all-white, fluorescent-lit location in which to shoot. I ended up at a photography studio in downtown L.A. that was willing to paint a wall for me. You should have seen the looks I got on the brief tech scout I did of the place when I took a plastic infant out of my bag and tried out a few camera angles to see if they would work!

The Comic Book Story of Video Games is out from Penguin Random House/Ten Speed Press, and has its own dedicated website here.
